  • Clap at the beginning of each take if we use a separate mic to line up the audio

  • Have a whiteboard with the take number written on it for the thumbnails

  • Remember to make notes about which takes were good and which were unusable

This was done by me and Zoe

Self reflection: Eventually, we ditched the spa idea because it was to generic and not all spas allowed us to film. We did use the two filming schedule at the top.

Statement of Intent

This is our project proposal

Statement of Intent

Tourism Ad

Primary Target Audience

Demographic

Less wealthy, stressed, university students, ages 18 - 21, all genders, who are forced to care for their much younger siblings, 6 - 10 years old, all genders, and want to travel on a budget.

Reason

Because we are about to be university students with younger siblings, and we feel like they deserve relaxation/vacation opportunities to relax and unwind.

Psychographic

They are foodies, who want to explore the world through taste. They also like to enjoy their food with their siblings in the form of picnics.

Reason

Because not everyone travelling to Bali searches specifically for the traditional cuisines (e.g nasi lawar, etc) and enjoys it in the local Bedugul parks.

Secondary  Target Audience

Large lower-class families who want to create memories with their children but don’t have the resources to travel.

Reason

Because big families are stressful, and the opportunity to get away from daily obligations should NOT be reserved for the wealthy!

Content Overview

A young woman is saving up in a big glass jar labelled “dream vacation.” Her little siblings watch miserably at the measly amount of money, and decide to do research on budget airlines.

OH NO! Their first travel experience with [airline that shall not be named] is horrific and a borderline human rights violation.

How about this airline?? Wow Bali is so great guys. This is so relaxing.

Possible detail: The student wants to catch up on their studies while lounging on the beach, and their younger sibling makes them put it away. We’re here to relax!!

Unique Selling Point

Bali, Indonesia is a cheap but quality destination for low budget travellers alike, not just because of the generic beaches, but MORE than that.

Representations

People:

  • Stressed-out university student, who has a lot on their plate with taking care of young children. They’re presented as slightly disorganised but compassionate, wanting to do the best for their siblings.

  • Young children, who are antsy and bored from staying in a dorm all the time. They see how stressed their older sibling is and want to help them unwind.

Places:

  • Dingy little apartment/dorm

  • Disaster plane (I’m on the fence about this idea though…)

  • Cool Plane

  • Wow Bali is so cool. (Beaches, local villages)

    • OOH we can have a subversion of expectations in the style of “Think You Know Singapore?

    • “Why would you go to Bali to relax and unwind from stressful school life when beaches are so crowded and dirty?!”

    • Then we could show nice quiet little warungs, spas, picnics in the park, wide drone shots of wilderness treks/walks, etc

Dominant Reading (Your message)

HEY UNIVERSITY STUDENTS!!!! Don’t you wanna make the most out of your limited budget??? Stay away from the crowded tourist hotspots!! Have family friendly relaxing fun and bond with your beloved family!!!! Stay responsible, AND relaxed.

This was made by both my teammate and I

Self reflection: Originally, we were going to advertise Bali’s beaches and nature places. However, It was too generic as such we changed to Bali’s authentic restaurants and bamboo playgrounds.

Script + Storyboard

The Script:

 Characters:

The university student

Their little sibling

Narrator

Little sibling grabs the jar of money and puts a 1$ bill into the jar

Little sibling: “Now do we have enough?”

The University Student : (sighs) “Nope! Not yet. But hey, if we keep saving up, we might be able to go next year, kiddo.” (ruffles sibling’s hair)

Little sibling: “NEXT YEAR?! I can’t wait THAT long!!”

Little sibling crosses their arms, making a little pouty face as the University Student walks away, leaving their laptop open.

Little sibling: “There must be somewhere we can go…”

Little sibling stares into the laptop, an idea icon pops out and they type. “How about…. Bali!”

The camera enters the laptop with a zoom transition and goes to a beach. The characters look mildly uncomfortable.

Narrator: “Seriously?! the beach? That is so last summer”

University Student: “Ughh.. IT’s SO crowded!”

Little sibling sees that older sibling is stressed out, grabs the older sibling and goes to the next scene

Little sibling: “C’mon, let’s get out of here. How about…?”

[University Student and little sibling arrive at the next locations with a whoosh transition.]

Little sibling: “The cafe’s !!”

Narrator: “This is more like it ! A nice relaxing holiday with amazing buildings and delicious food !”

Narrator: “Experience Bali. The real Bali”

Made by both Zoe and Me

This is our storyboard made by Zoe

Self reflection: We didn't use part of the script where the narrator says stuff and made some changes to some of the dialogue. The storyboard helped us visualize the actual advert that we are going to create even though it wasn't 100% accurate. I learned how to make appropriate dialogue for the actresses.

Location scout + risk assessment

Location 1

Location:

Saba beach

Events in scene:

The characters will attempt to relax, before realising that beaches in Bali are

completely hopeless.

Pros of location:

  • Bright lighting

  • Free to visit

  • It's walking distance from my house,

  • It's not the prettiest beach around (which works for the message of our ad)

Cons of location:

  • It can be crowded and loud there.

  • There is litter everywhere

  • Uncontrollable lighting

Alternatives:

We can shoot at another beach that is less crowded and near the shooting area

Risk Assessment

Potential hazards:

  • Tsunami

  • Rain

  • Trash and litter in the sand

Evaluate risks:

  • A tsunami can put all of our filming crew in danger because of the huge waves

  • Rain would make the pavement slippery and would be at risk of injury, and prevent us from filming

  • Trash and litter also can harm the user with sharp broken plastic bottle edges.

Control measures:

  • We can check an app for potential tsunamis and rainy days and not film on those specific days.

  • We can go at a certain time when the lighting should be right

  • We will have a safety and hazard assessment to make sure the area we are on has no hidden litter or trash.

Location 2

Location:

Cafe district of Sanur

Events in scene:

The characters will attempt to sightsee through the multiple buildings and find themselves enjoying the colourful architecture and food.

Pros of location:

  • Free to visit

  • It's quite close to school

  • It's quite beautiful with the multiple unique buildings

Cons of location:

  • At some hours it can be very crowded

  • Uncontrollable lighting

Alternatives:

We can shoot in a marketplace or other cafe districts that are further away but more convenient

Or

Segara Village (beach club & restaurant)

Risk Assessment

Potential hazards:

  • Rain

  • Crowded

Evaluate risks:

  • Rain would make the pavement slippery and the crew would be at risk of injury.

  • Crowded places also tend to be a source of harm as people can easily step on the actress/actor‘s foot or other parts of their body

Control measures:

  • We can check an app for rainy days and not film on those specific days.

  • We can avoid certain parts of the district that are prone to crowdedness

Responsibility:

My teammate Shannon will control these measures

Time frame:

1 day before the shoot

Made by both Zoe, my teammate and Me

Reflection: How will this help my project ??

This will help us avoid potential accidents in our filming sessions and if those problems arise we will be able to overcome them

Self reflection: For our 2 location, we didn't use the sanur cafe district location instead we used one of the alternatives which is the beach club and restaurant. I think next time we will provide more alternatives to our risk assessment instead of only providing one or two so we would have more options and avoid running into similar problems.
